Without William Tyndale’s New Testament of 1534 the King James Bible of 1611 or any other English Bible for that matter would never have existed. Estimates of William Tyndale's contribution to the 1611 King James Version (or Authorised Version) of the Bible have run from a high of up to 90%. Tyndale's contribution to the English New Testament is about 84% of the text. In the Old Testament about 76 per cent of the words are Tyndale’s translations.
Tyndale was martyred for translating and publishing the Latin New Testament into English. William Tyndale was captured in Antwerp in 1534, condemned for heresy, was executed by strangulation and then burned at the stake at Vilvoorde Castle near Brussels in 1536. Tyndale’s final words spoken during his barbaric burning at the stake, were reported, as a dying Tyndale, slowly consumed by fire and in great pain cries out- "Lord! Open the King of England's eyes
