n 1534, William Tyndale completed his final English translation of the New Testament. It was the culmination of his life’s work. He believed that the Scriptures should be translated into the language of the common people so that they could read it and understand it for themselves. Tyndale’s New Testament enabled English speakers to read the New Testament in their native tongue for the first time. Despite the translation’s popularity among the common people, Tyndale was fiercely hated for his work by the established church, and he paid the ultimate price with his life two years later, in 1536.
Despite his untimely death, William Tyndale’s legacy continues to live in the pages of his 1534 New Testament. This translation became the basis for subsequent translations of the New Testament and it continues to be treasured by scholars and collectors alike. There are modern typeset editions of the 1534 New Testament on the market today, but the original edition as it first appeared nearly 500 years ago has been hidden from the public for hundreds of years. Imagine being able to own an exact reproduction of this historic work!
